Our Current Project:
Our current online lesson is called “Sunlight on the Creek Bed.” This lesson is focused on layering dark, cool shadows with a glazing process while allowing the bright yellow-greens to stay bright and luminous.

The goal of this background is to strike a stunning contrast with the darker trunks, and in order to execute this, there must be a conscious effort to ignore details in the distant forest. The shadows lose their warmth, resulting in a desaturated blue-purple. These cool tones pop against the yellow and green shades and the result is a beautiful complementary pattern. Keeping shapes in the background large and deliberate prevents the back from conflicting with the front.
The next stages of this project will develop more details in the foreground and middle ground. Trunks will receive more details and cool shades, and the leafy plants in the front will get more texture layered on.
